New Biological Sciences Graduate Student Orientation
BSGSA is helping facilitate several activites and events for new grad student orientation, including lunch with department big siblings, a scavenger hunt around campus, a department-wide symposium and poster session, Q&A, and more!
Stay tuned for fall semester 2025 events, including a craft night and Halloween party!
Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium
Our annual Biological Sciences Graduate Student Research Symposium is a graduate student-only event where we have the opportunity to share our research with each other in a relaxed environment. Gift cards are reward to the best talks and there's a raffle gift card given to poster presenters!
BioBites Networking Hour
Come join the BGSA for breakfast on the 2nd Monday of each month. Meet your fellow BGSA members and expand your professional network while enjoying bagels and coffee! Event location rotates between Lilly Hall and Hockmeyer Hall.
Pint Night:
Unwind with your fellow BGSA members at the Pint in West Lafayette! Enjoy some delicious street tacos (provided by the BGSA) and feel free to order a beverage for yourself! (Must have a valid photo ID to enter).
Bowling Night:
The BGSA often hosts a Bowling Night during the Graduate Student Orientation week as well as the Graduate Student Interview Weekend. Knock down some bowling pins while enjoying pizza and hanging out with your peers! No skills required!
Halloween Party:
The BGSA hosts an annual Halloween party at the Ross Biological Reserve in late October. We provide pumpkins for carving, a bonfire, snacks, door prizes, and a scary movie. Costumes are encouraged, and the winner of the costume contest receives a gift card!
Video Game/ Board Game Night:
Last year, we hosted the incredibly successful Game Night at the WALC! The BGSA hosted a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament on the Nintendo Switch! Play some board games or card games, watch your fellow BGSA members battle it out, and snack on our favorite gamer food such as chips, cookies, and soda!
Job Webinar Panel:
Interested in knowing the ins and outs of landing a dream job after graduation? Last year, we had the opportunity to learn from some of our recent graduate alumni about getting a job in academia, industry, and education. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was canceled, but materials were still provided by panelists!
Escape Room:
In this fun team-building activity, you along with up to 10 friends have 1 hour to escape from a themed room through solving puzzles to find the key to escape! The BGSA is able to partially cover the admission, but the price you pay lowers with more participants. The more the merrier!
